Chariton Valley Becomes Iowa's Newest Council of Governments
Effective July 1, 2007, Chariton Valley Planning and Development will assume the role of regional planning commission and council of governments for the counties and cities in Appanoose, Lucas, Monroe, and Wayne counties.
The change, authorized by the 2007 Iowa Legislature, is being made to provide greater attention to the needs of local governments in the Chariton Valley/Rathbun Lake area.
Services similar to those presently provided by Area 15 Regional Planning Commission will be provided through Chariton Valley including but not limited to: grant writing and administration, project development and oversight, transportation planning, comprehensive and strategic planning, infrastructure and capital improvements planning, destination tourism planning, and economic development support.
With the transition, Chariton Valley Planning and Development has chosen to operate without membership dues. Subsequently, no dues membership will be requested of local governments for the upcoming state fiscal year. Services will be delivered on a demand-response basis.
