CVPD Requests Funds for Housing to IEDA

Centerville, Iowa --- Chariton Valley Planning & Development Council of Governments diligently worked over four (4) months with the four (4) communities of Allerton, Centerville, Moulton and Seymour for the submission of the 2013 Community Development Block Grants for Housing Rehabilitation. The program will be able to assist low to moderate income families and or individuals with housing needs. This is a competitive process in the state and those communities that submit an application through the program could receive funding through the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) for the rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes. Generally a review process is conducted and awards are presented annually in March. Those homes that participate in the program are insured to meet the Iowa’s Minimum Housing Rehabilitation Standards.
“We received over 120 pre-applications in total from all four communities. This definitely shows a great need for housing rehabilitation throughout our region” states Nichole Moore, Executive Director of Chariton Valley Planning & Development. “We feel that this type of program partnered with other housing programs, we can update those deteriorating homes and provide a healthier living environment.” The program strives to improve the efficiency of the structure, to remove any lead hazards concerns and to help families create a more affordable and safer way of living.
Chariton Valley Planning & Development Council of Governments Housing Division is committed to providing safe and stable homes for residents of Appanoose, Lucas, Monroe and Wayne Counties. CVPD works with communities to apply for and administer Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) offered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority for the State of Iowa. The CDBG funds are partnered with local funds to promote general economic prosperity with local contractors and improved welfare to local residents. If you have an interest to participate in this program, residents need to contact their local city councils to express their needs. Communities should then contact CVPD to learn more about the application process.
If you have further questions regarding the program please contact the office of Chariton Valley Planning & Development, at 308 North 12th Street, Centerville, Iowa, 641-437-4359 or visit our website at www.charitonvalleyplanning.com.
